Час юбиляра «Под парусом Валентина Катаева», который посвящен 125-летию со дня рождения писателя.
Говорили, что Валентин Катаев поцелован Богом. У него было две макушки, что означало большое счастье. И он действительно прожил долгую и счастливую жизнь. Он ходил по лезвию ножа, но судьба его хранила и от войны, и от Сталина, и от измен. Одни называли его последним коммунистом, другие — классиком советского литературного модерна. Катаев похож на старую толстую энциклопедию, в которой смешались все человеческие чувства и которую невозможно прочесть до конца.
Катаев Валентин Петрович родился в Одессе 28 января 1897 года в обычной семье в Одессе. Дедушка Валентина был сыном священника. Отец Петр Васильевич Катаев тоже был связан с православной церковью, так как преподавал в одесском епархиальном училище. Отец Валентина был очень образован, он, кроме духовной семинарии закончил еще и Новороссийский университет историко-филологического факультета. Евгения Ивановна Бачей, мама будущего известного писателя, происходила из дворянского рода и была генеральской дочерью.
У Валентина был младший брат Евгений, которого природа тоже наградила талантом писателя. Брат Валентина взял себе псевдоним Петров (по имени отца). Евгений тоже прославился на литературном поприще. Именно он был соавтором известных широкой читательской аудитории произведений «Золотой теленок» и «12 стульев» в тандеме с Ильей Ильфом (Файнзильбергом).
Мальчики росли в культурной семье, в атмосфере любви и взаимопонимания. Они начали с детства приобщаться к чтению. Их родители собрали обширную библиотеку, и дети росли в окружении книг Лермонтова, Гоголя, Пушкина и других знаменитых авторов. Это с раннего детства способствовало к привитию сыновьям страстной любви к книгам и чтению. Пронеся эту страсть через всю жизнь, оба брата посвятили себя литературе. Валентин Катаев твёрдо решил стать литератором, когда ему было всего девять лет.
Мальчики рано остались без матери: она скончалась от воспаления легких вскоре после рождения Жени. Отец, овдовев, больше не женился, с воспитанием детей стала помогать сестра Евгении Ивановны. Тетя была очень доброй, но маму заменить маленькому Вале не могла. Травма от потери навсегда осталась в душе ребенка.
Отдушину мальчик искал в творчестве. С 9 лет, будучи гимназистом, он стал писать стихи, которые читал всем домашним, ища одобрения. Став постарше, юноша стал носить написанное в редакции уже в поисках профессиональной оценки. И первый успех пришел к нему в 1910 году, когда в издании «Одесский вестник» впервые было напечатано стихотворение «Осень», а потом и другие сочинения, в том числе рассказы и фельетоны.
Отец всячески подогревал интерес мальчиков к литературе. Именно поэтому в их семье была огромная библиотека, которая хранила в себе книги разных жанров и самого различного содержания.
Долго наслаждаться творческим успехом Катаеву не пришлось. Началась Первая мировая война (1914-1918), и в 1915 году, так и не окончив гимназию, юноша ушел добровольцем на фронт. Службу Катаев начал рядовым артиллеристом. Потом он служил прапорщикам, дважды получал ранения, одно из них серьёзное, был отравлен ядовитыми газами, отчего голос его до конца остался с легкой хрипотцой.
Тяжёлое ранение в бедро Катаев получил в трудном 1917 году, когда он воевал на румынском фронте. Полученное увечье было очень серьезным, поэтому Валентина сразу же отправили в госпиталь, который располагался в Одессе. Поэтому писатель был демобилизован с фронта в чине прапорщика осенью 1917 года. С войны Катаев вернулся с наградами: два Георгиевских креста и орден Святой Анны IV. Также он удостоился титула дворянина, который не мог быть передан по наследству.
Не успели отгреметь залпы Первой мировой, как в стране разгорелась война Гражданская. Придя в себя после пережитого ранения, Катаев в 1918 году снова оказывается на службе.
Этот период биографии Валентина Катаева описан противоречиво. В одних источниках говорится, что с 1919 года он воевал в рядах Красной армии, командовал артиллерийской батареей. Но существует и альтернативная версия, согласно которой Катаев примкнул к «красным» позже, а сначала состоял добровольцем в Белой армии генерала Деникина, за что был впоследствии арестован чекистами. Есть сведения, что Катаева однажды судьба занесла в ряды войска известного гетмана П. Скоропадского. Но после того, как гетман совершил предательство и сбежал в немецкую столицу, Катаев ушел в добровольческую армию в звании подпоручика. Позднее Катаев служит на бронепоезде «Новороссия». Есть в биографии Катаева и сведения о том, что гений пера воевал против петлюровцев.
Тяжелый отпечаток на писателя отложил 1920 год, когда Катаев подхватил тиф и чуть не умер от этого страшного недуга. Тогда его снова отправили в одесский госпиталь. Недолго пролежав в стенах этого медучреждения, близкие забрали его домой. Там, благодаря хорошему уходу и постоянной заботе родных, он быстро выздоровел.
Когда силы снова вернулись, Катаев принимает решение стать подпольщиком офицерского заговора против П.Н. Врангеля. За это он был вместе с братом арестован. В тюрьме пробыли два брата-писателя до осени 1920 года. Вскоре братьев отпустили на свободу, а остальных заговорщиков той же ненастной осенью жестоко расстреляли.
Валентину Петровичу суждено было пройти три войны. В годы Второй мировой он вновь надел военную форму и отправился на передовую. Работал фронтовым корреспондентом, писал очерки, статьи, фотографировал.
Катаев был женат дважды. Первое упоминание о личной жизни писателя связано с именем Ирины Алексинской. Нежные чувства к девушке, живущей по соседству, стали первой любовью юноши. О первом браке Катаева известно мало. Первый брак писателя оборвался по причине смерти супруги от воспаления легких. Второе супружество Катаева оказалось намного счастливее. С Эстер Бреннер они поженились в 1931 году. Невесте было всего 18 лет, Катаеву – 34. Валентин Петрович ласково называл жену Эста. В 1936 году у пары родилась дочь Евгения, а в 1938 — сын Павлик. Дочь Валентин Петрович обожал. Маленькая Женя стала прототипом героинь сказок «Цветик-семицветик», «Дудочка и кувшинчик». Дочь Евгения подарила родителям первую и единственную внучку Валентину.
Уже будучи глубоко пожилым, Катаев перенес сложную операцию по удалению раковой опухоли. Но причиной смерти стала не онкология. Писатель умер спустя 12 лет от инсульта, на 90-м году жизни, 12 апреля 1986 года. Похоронен на Новодевичьем кладбище в Москве.
Творческий путь
С ранних своих лет Валентин Катаев был влюблен в классическую литературу, без которой он не мог прожить и дня. +Сам Катаев уже, будучи великим человеком, говорил, что с ранних детских лет мечтал стать выдающимся писателем и верил в то, что его мечта сбудется.
С первым его трогательным стихотворением читатели познакомились в 1910 году. Называлось оно «Осень». Это произведение выпустил «Одесский вестник», который пользовался популярностью среди одесситов. Увидев интерес читателей к своему первому литературному шедевру, Валентин еще сильнее загорелся. Так за 2 года мир увидело еще 25 потрясающих его стихотворений.
В 1912 году Валентин попробовал изменить жанр. В результате стали появляться юмористические рассказы. Параллельно появляются два серьезных объемных произведения «Пробуждение», а также «Темная личность». Первый рассказ описывал великую любовь молодого человека к девушке, которую он героически оставил ради революционного движения. Второе произведение несло сатирический подтекст, высмеивая А. Куприна, А. Аверченко и М. Корнфельда.
До событий Первой мировой войны начинающему писателю Катаеву посчастливилось познакомиться с И.А. Буниным, а также А. М. Федоровым, которые позднее стали верными литературными наставниками Катаева. Через несколько лет круг друзей Катаева стал расширяться – в число его соратников вошли Э. Багрицкий и Ю. Олеша.
Любовь к литературному искусству у Катаева была настолько сильной и всепоглощающей, что даже в трагические годы войны он умудрялся писать увлекательные рассказы и потрясающие очерки, иллюстрирующие тяготы фронтовых будней.
В 1915 году в популярнейшем журнале «Весь мир», который читали все, в том числе элита столицы, появился рассказ Катаева «Немчик». Позднее всем, кто восхвалял талант Катаева, писатель говорил, что шедевры у него получаются благодаря бесценным напутствиям И. Бунина.
Так или иначе, принимая участие в Первой Мировой, а затем в Гражданской войнах, тяготы военной жизни Катаев пережил сполна и потом описал их в повести «Записки о гражданской войне» (1920), рассказе «Отец» (1928).
Значимым для Катаева был 1921 год, когда он, работая в харьковском официальном издательстве вместе с Ю. Олешей, арендует жилплощадь. Именно в тот период Катаев решил, что пришло время покорять столицу. Туда он и отправился через год.
Так с 1922 года в жизни и творчестве Катаева наступает новый этап: писатель переезжает из Одессы в Москву, начинает плодотворно работать для газеты «Гудок». Его круг общения — многие таланты того времени: Юрий Олеша, Исаак Бабель, Илья Ильф, Эдуард Багрицкий. Все они вслед за Катаевым уехали из Одессы покорять столицу, и удачливый первопроходец помогал им обустроиться.
В Москве систематически появляются статьи Катаева сатирического и юмористического характера. Под ними он подписывался по-разному. Зачастую под его произведениями ставились псевдонимы Митрофан Горчица, Ол. Твист, а также Саббакин Старик.
Удача действительно улыбалась молодому писателю. Его талант, наконец, признан в столице. Публикация повести «Растратчики» (1926), в которой автор в сатирической манере критикует социальный бич того времени – присвоение казенных денег, отмечена большим успехом. Сам Станиславский предложил Катаеву поставить по мотивам повести пьесу. И вскоре она прошла на сцене МХАТа. А вторая пьеса «Квадратура круга» была поставлена на нью-йоркском Бродвее.
Вслед за старшим братом покорять Москву приехал и Катаев-младший, которого Валентин Петрович стал вовлекать в писательскую среду. «Каждый интеллигентный, грамотный человек может что-нибудь написать», — говорил он. Примечательно, что, напутствуя брата, Катаев инициирует написание авантюрного романа о спрятанных во время революции бриллиантах. Идеей он делится с Евгением и другом Ильей Ильфом, приглашая их написать черновик романа, который бы потом сам усовершенствовал и продвинул к публикации. Ильф и Петров (псевдоним Евгения Катаева) блестяще справились с задачей без наставничества. Написанный роман разошелся на цитаты, а в благодарность за идею издан с посвящением Валентину Катаеву.
События 1938 года наложили на Катаева тяжелый отпечаток. Он был свидетелем, как талантливого поэта О. Мандельштама арестовала советская власть, назвав все его литературные труды похабными и клеветническими. Наблюдая с болью в сердце за арестом своего соратника, Катаев решил систематически помогать деньгами семье Мандельштама.
Валентин Петрович в годы Второй мировой он вновь надел военную форму и отправился на передовую. Работал фронтовым корреспондентом, писал очерки, статьи, фотографировал. Известным произведением того времени стала повесть «Сын полка» (1945): образ главного героя Вани Солнцева олицетворяет трагические судьбы многих детей в годы войны.
К детской теме Катаев обращается еще в довоенные годы, когда пишет повесть «Белеет парус одинокий», в которой автор погружается в атмосферу родной Одессы. В героях Пете и Павлике, которые вовлечены в круговорот приключений на фоне разрушенного революцией 1905 года города, угадываются черты самого Катаева и его брата Жени. В тяжёлые годы войны нашей страны с захватчиками-фашистами Катаев работал военным корреспондентом. Но и в тот напряженный период, когда одна поездка сменяла другую, Катаев не переставал писать очерки, увлекательные рассказы и захватывающие публицистические статьи. Именно в те напряженные годы талантливый Валентин подарил миру восхитительное произведение «Отче наш».
Повестью «Белеет парус одинокий» (1936) открывается тетралогия «Волны Черного моря», в которую позже вошли романы «Катакомбы» (1951), «Хуторок в степи» (1956) и «Зимний ветер» (1960-1961).
Если «Парус» лишь отчасти можно назвать автобиографическим, то роман «Алмазный мой венец» критики открыто назвали мемуарным. Сам писатель с такой трактовкой не был согласен и даже отказался от жанрового определения роман. «Это свободный полет моей фантазии, основанный на истинных происшествиях», — говорил он. Катаев работает над книгой в 1975-77 годах, а описываемые события относят читателя в мир литературной богемы 20-х годов. Оригинальность произведения в том, что при реальной основе сюжета герои, а это известные писатели и поэты – современники автора, завуалированы псевдонимами-масками. А новизна в том, что Катаев впервые написал в непривычном для себя стиле, жанре и направлении.
Непосредственно перед Победой гений пера дарит читателям повесть «Сын полка», которая со временем обрела громогласную популярность, за что и была удостоена Госпремии.
Всесторонняя развитость Катаева проявилась, когда гений пера подарил детям и юношам превосходные сказки «Голубок», а также «Цветик-Семицветик». В 1945 году появляются еще сказки «Пень», а также «Жемчужинка», которые привели детскую аудиторию в восторг. Но восторгались этими произведениями не только малыши, но и их родители, которые видели умение гения пера тонко и аккуратно раскрывать в своих произведениях актуальные нравственные вопросы.
Очень аккуратно и бережно Валентин Катаев наставлял детей в своих произведениях, ненавязчиво указывая на особую значимость добра, отзывчивости и уважения к родителям.
С 1955 по 1961 год Катаев возглавляет журнал «Юность», занимая пост главного редактора. В эти годы его издательству помогают удерживать высокий рейтинг малоизвестные молодые поэты, которых тогда относили к «шестидесятникам».
Советский писатель Валентин Петрович Катаев прожил долгую, насыщенную событиями жизнь. Этого человека отличало сочетание невероятной отваги, порядочности, доброты и разностороннего таланта. На его глазах свершались многие важные исторические события, он – участник трех войн – Первой мировой, Гражданской и Великой Отечественной. Эти вехи нашли отражением в его творчестве: рассказах и повестях, пьесах, стихах и очерках. Его работы взяты за основу многих сценариев к художественным и мультипликационным фильмам, к постановкам театральных пьес.
За многолетний период своей творческой деятельности Катаев подарил ценителям литературы больше сотни прекрасных произведений, которые иллюстрируют реалии жизни, являются поучительными и назидательными для человека любой эпохи.

1.В тяжёлые для страны годы Валентин Катаев лично воевал на фронте, и эти события оказали огромное влияние не только на его мировоззрение, но и на его дальнейшее творчество.

7.За свои военные подвиги и за личную храбрость он был произведён в дворянины. Правда, это было «личное» дворянство, не передающееся по наследству.
8.Детство Катаева прошло в Одессе, и он, по воспоминаниям современников, до конца жизни не избавился от присущих этому городу манер и акцента, хоть и прожил почти всю жизнь в Москве и ближнем Подмосковье.
9.Катаев заступался за репрессированного советским режимом писателя Осипа Мандельштама и помогал деньгами его жене, когда тот был в заключении.
10.Повесть Катаева «Растратчики», не слишком популярная в СССР, стала настоящим хитом в США. Она была переведена на английский язык почти сразу после публикации на русском.
11.Родители, бабушка и родной дядя Валентина похоронены на Втором Христианском кладбище Одессы, которое при жизни часто посещал Катаев, чтобы воссоединиться душой со своими близкими и мысленно попросить совета в непростых жизненных ситуациях.
12.Валентин Катаев открыто осуждал Солженицына и призывал не проявлять к нему никакого снисхождения.
13. Катаев создавал фильмы на основе очень многих своих произведений.

Валентин в каждую сценическую работу вкладывал всего себя. Поэтому фильмы его были красивыми, интересными и профессионально поставленными. Зрители их просматривали всегда с особым упоением.
Более 40 произведений прозаика, в том числе сказки и сценарии, были экранизированы. Самые известные — «Белеет парус одинокий» (1937), «Волны черного моря (1975), «Сын полка» (1981).
