Публичный центр правовой информации имени Г. В. Плеханова к 250-летию со дня рождения Вальтера Скотта  провел в ЦСОН Ленинского района для получателей социальных услуг  Литературный пьедестал  «Сэр Вальтер Скотт: жизнь и личность».

Вальтер Скотт – популярный шотландский поэт, прозаик, историк, адвокат. Стоял у истоков зарождения нового жанра в литературе – исторического романа.

Вальтер Скотт первым написал исторический роман, и по праву считается основоположником этого жанра. Язык его произведений – уникальный, яркий, живой, именно это гарантировало автору невероятный успех у читателей. Его романы сразу становились бестселлерами, их читали и перечитывали не только на родине писателя, но и далеко за ее пределами.

«Литературный Колумб», как называл его В.Г. Белинский, оставил после себя огромное литературное наследие — романы, повести, рассказы, поэмы, исторические труды, которые навсегда вошли в золотой фонд мировой литературы. Уже на протяжении двух с половиной веков мир зачитывается его великолепными «Айвенго», «Квентин Дорвард»,  «Пертской красавицей», «Пуританами», «Роб Роем»…

Скотт стал первым, кто познакомил мир с шотландской культурой и самобытностью, он ратовал за законность и британскую государственность.

Вальтер Скотт родился в Эдинбурге 15 августа 1771 года, а умер 21 сентября 1832 года в своём поместье Эбботсфорд (его могила находится в Драйбургском аббатстве). Вся его жизнь была отдана литературе и родной Шотландии.

Он был кумиром читающей публики, а среди писателей считался мерилом творческих  достижений. Белинский в своих статьях и письмах упомянул имя Вальтера Скотта не менее двухсот раз и, если он хотел указать на творческую задачу особой сложности, почти непосильную, то говорил, что с этой задачей не справился бы или справился лишь с величайшим трудом, «сам Вальтер Скотт».

Американская знаменитость Джеймс Фенимор Купер обратился к сочинению историко-приключенческих романов под сильным впечатлением от книг Вальтера Скотта.

Бальзак называл «шотландского барда» не иначе, как гением, и стремился применить его повествовательный метод к современности.

Гёте говорил: 

«Вальтер Скотт – великий талант, не имеющий себе равных, и, право же, неудивительно, что он производит такое впечатление на читающий мир. Он даёт мне обильную пищу для размышлений, и в нём мне открывается совсем новое искусство, имеющее свои собственные законы».

«Не знаю чтения более увлекательного, чем произведения Вальтера Скотта», – писал Байрон. Он же признавался: «Я все романы Вальтера Скотта читал не менее пятидесяти раз…».

При чтении Вальтера Скотта у современников возникало впечатление чуда. 

«Забылся, увлечённый волшебным вымыслом», – описывает Лермонтов читательские впечатления своего героя. «Так прекрасно описано, что ночь сидишь… читаешь»,– передаёт впечатления своего персонажа Достоевский (в «Белых ночах»).

В России Вальтер Скотт был хорошо известен уже с 20-х годов XIX в. Создав исторический роман, писатель установил законы нового жанра и блестяще воплотил их на практике. Его творчество оказало огромное влияние на историческую прозу русских писателей — Пушкина, Гоголя и многих других авторов. Этот жанр стал одним из наиболее популярных в эпоху романтизма.

Интересные и важные моменты жизни Вальтера Скотта:

В полуторагодовалом возрасте маленького Вальтера поразил детский паралич, оставивший его на всю жизнь хромым, что, конечно же, причиняло ему в жизни много неудобств.

* Вальтер Скотт был страстным антикваром. Собирание предметов старины стало его увлечением ещё со студенческих лет.

* На тот момент, когда Вальтер Скотт решил перейти с поэзии на прозу, будущему великому романисту было уже 42 года.

* Женой Вальтера Скотта была француженка Шарлотта Шарпантье. У супругов было четверо детей.

* В жизни он был образцовым семьянином; очень любил природу, домашних животных, хорошее застолье в семейном кругу.

* Из любви к средневековью перестроил своё жилище, сделав из него небольшой замок на средневековый манер и украсил его снаружи фамильным гербом, а внутри – портретами шотландских королей и своих благородных предков.

* Вальтер Скотт мечтал стать родоначальником благородной фамилии, и он им стал. В 1920 году ему было даровано право называться «сэр Вальтер Скотт Абботсфорд, баронет», что он считал величайшей наградой.

* Слава принесла Вальтеру Скотту колоссальные доходы. Желая упрочить будущее своих детей, он решается стать компаньоном одного из издательств, которое обанкротилось. Огромный долг, изнурительная работа для исправления ситуации – все это закончилось несколькими инсультами. 21 сентября 1832 года, Вальтер Скотт скончался.

* В центре Эдинбурга в 40-х годах ХIХ века был сооружён памятник писателю, который стал неотъемлемой частью столицы Шотландии. Памятник подобен шпилю готического собора, под сводом которого – фигура великого шотландского писателя.

Вальтер Скотт и его герои встречаются в Шотландии повсюду — их имена увековечены в названиях улиц, пабов, отелей, их изваяния украшают музеи…
